Caminho do Rei Trail

About the attraction

In the North of Santa Catarina Island, the Caminho do Rei Trail is an unmissable adventure that runs along the top of the massif between Bom Jesus Waterfall, Ponta das Canas, English It is Brava Beach. The trail starts at Rua Leonel Pereira, just before the descent to SC-403, between two fences.

The initial walk follows along rural property fences, crossing an area of regenerating forest with some swamps. These parts can be confusing as there are many alternative trails used by farmers and cattle, so it's a good idea to keep your GPS handy so you don't get lost.

The trail is relatively easy and peaceful, with the climb to the top of the hill being the most challenging section, but still of moderate difficulty. At the top, dense vegetation prevents a full 360º view, but some rocks offer an incredible panoramic view of the beaches of Cachoeira and Ponta das Canas.

In the final stretch, the trail leads to the Praia Brava paragliding field, passing through open paths, and ends at the highway that goes to Praia Brava, near the viewpoint. There are around seven kilometers of trail, from Mirante da Praia Brava to Mirante da Cachoeira do Bom Jesus, offering a breathtaking view of the north of the island.

The Caminho do Rei Trail also has a rich history. Some say it was created when the village administrators opened a path to connect Praia de Canasvieiras to the old São Francisco de Paula Church, in preparation for Dom Pedro II's visit to Florianópolis, then called Desterro. Other historical records also show that during the Spanish invasion of 1777, the Spanish used the trail to gain a strategic view of the sea accesses to the region, showing that the trail may be even older.

Explore the Caminho do Rei Trail and immerse yourself in a journey that combines fascinating history, lush nature and spectacular views!
