Customs Square

About the attraction

With an area of approximately 6,000 square meters, Largo da Alfândega is a square that dates back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when Florianópolis was an important commercial port in Brazil. The square housed the Alfândega, a customs checkpoint for goods entering and leaving the city. Over time, the square and the Alfândega building underwent several renovations and currently houses the Centro da Cultura Popular and Galeria do Artesanato project, which aims to preserve and enhance the culture of Santa Catarina, opening space for around 120 artisans from the entire state of Santa Catarina.

In addition, Largo da Alfândega is surrounded by historic buildings, including the Municipal Public Market, opened in 1898 and one of the main retail outlets for local products in Florianópolis.

During the day, Largo da Alfândega is a busy and vibrant place, with many people exploring the market and trying the typical delicacies of the region, such as oysters, shrimps and fresh seafood.

At night, Largo da Alfândega becomes a meeting point for residents and visitors. Bars and restaurants in the area offer a variety of dining options to suit all tastes, while live music and cultural performances ensure a festive and relaxed atmosphere.

Largo da Alfândega in Florianópolis is a public square, therefore, it does not have specific opening hours. The square is open 24 hours a day and is frequently visited by tourists and locals throughout the day.

However, stores and restaurants located in the area may have specific opening hours, so it is recommended to check directly with each establishment.

Largo da Alfândega is an unmissable place for anyone visiting Florianópolis. In addition to its architectural beauty and fascinating history, the square is a true gastronomic and cultural paradise offering something for everyone.
