What to do

Ethnographic Museum House of the Azores

About the attraction

Imagine yourself traveling to Florianópolis and discovering a true treasure of Azorean-Madeiran history and culture: the Casa dos Açores – Ethnographic Museum. This museum is housed in a building built in the 19th century, located in the municipality of Biguaçu, just 20 kilometers from the center of Florianópolis.

Casa dos Açores is one of the most splendid records of the heyday of the Azorean-Madeiran colony in the town of São Miguel and has an impressive collection of furniture, clothing and other pieces aimed at the preservation and study of Azorean culture.

Furthermore, the museum forms a beautiful architectural ensemble together with the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, the farm and the arches of the old aqueduct. Administered by the Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (FCC), the property was acquired by the Government of the State of Santa Catarina in 1978 and underwent restoration to become a museum, opened on March 4, 1979.

The space is also used to promote works by authors from Santa Catarina and exhibitions, in addition to selling local crafts. If you are a lover of history and culture, be sure to visit Casa dos Açores on your next trip to Florianópolis.

Tip: In addition to visiting the Casa dos Açores – Ethnographic Museum, take the opportunity to discover the ruins of the Aqueduct, The beauty Balneário de São Miguel Beach and try fresh fish in local restaurants. It is the perfect combination of culture, history, beach and gastronomy in Biguaçu.
