From local markets full of colors and aromas to seaside restaurants, there is something for all tastes and desires here! And how about discovering the island’s UNMISSABLE dishes?
Fish Stew: During your stay in Florianópolis, be sure to try the authentic fish pirão, a delicacy that represents the essence of caiçara cuisine. Made with the harmonious combination of cassava flour and fish broth, this full-bodied and tasty dish offers an explosion of flavors that captivates locals and tourists alike. It is the perfect accompaniment to any seafood meal, and in many establishments, it is a constant presence in the portions served.
Mullet: Its fishing season generally occurs between the months of May and August, when the sea waters are most suitable for the migration of these fish in search of warmer waters for spawning. This seasonality makes mullet even more special for residents and visitors, who eagerly await this season to enjoy this traditional and tasty dish. Here it can be served fried in slices, baked and stuffed with farofa made from its roe and climbing.
Fresh Oysters: Seafood lovers must try the fresh oysters from Florianópolis, which is responsible for almost 80% of national production and is considered the National Capital of Oysters. We even have a party to celebrate this delicious mollusc “Fenaostra” which this year will take place in August. The Santo Antônio neighborhoods of Lisbon, Sambaqui and Ribeirão da Ilha are known for oyster farming, due to the combination of sea water and fresh water in the North and South bays of the island. The variety of dishes is wide, including oysters served in nature, on the breath, au gratin, with vinaigrette, with honey, lemon and cachaça, in risottos, pastries, skewers and other creations in local bars and restaurants, inviting visitors to try the different ways of enjoying this delicious mollusk.
Octopus: Octopus is another highlight of Florianópolis gastronomy, present in several dishes that surprise with their flavor and creativity. From grilled octopus with fresh herbs to more elaborate preparations, such as risottos and stews, there are options for all tastes. The soft texture and delicate flavor of octopus combine perfectly with the fresh and aromatic ingredients of local cuisine, providing an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
Don't forget to visit the Public market, Kairós Cervejaria, Duca Charcutaria, Oyster Bar Parish and the Jajá's Restaurant, places that not only provide food, but also tell stories and preserve our local culture.
