Porto do Contra is a historic site of great importance for Ribeirão da Ilha, in Florianópolis. It was named by Sebastian Cabotto in 1526 and only reactivated after the arrival of Azorean and African immigrants in 1760. For decades, the pier was used for commercial purposes, until the arrival of roads and “progress” caused the sea to lose its path function.
Today the Contract Port is a gastronomic establishment that seeks to keep the memory and importance of the place alive. Inspired by seafood and the history of the Azoreans and Africans, Porto's gastronomy is a way of reclaiming the region's values and traditions. Although fishing and agriculture are no longer the economic pillars of the locality, gastronomy has become a way of honoring and celebrating the rich cultural heritage left by those who transformed the economy of Ribeirão da Ilha. Come and experience a taste of history at Porto do Contrato.
