What to do

Field Residence of Gov. Hercílio Luz

About the attraction

Territory known by tropeiros coming from the Campos de Lages region since the 18th century, Rancho Queimado was part of the set of colonial lines of Colônia Santa Isabel, formed by families of Germanic and Luxembourgish origin, and which reached the District of Taquaras, a meeting point of the paths – old and new – that led to Lages.

It is in this region that there is a beautiful building used for some years as a country residence of Governor Hercílio Luz.

Building from the beginning of the 20th century, it features exposed brick architecture, flat tiles and a gable roof. In 1911, the then governor of Santa Catarina Hercílio Pedro da Luz, acquired the building to use it as a residence for leisure and rest, due to the mild climate and altitude in the region.

The building, which initially had only a ground floor, underwent renovations with the installation of an annex on two floors with an attic. The original features were maintained, with emphasis on the balcony with exposed brick railing, lambrequins finishing the eaves and the roof with French cement tiles.

The current complex, consisting of a house and farm totaling 184,413 m2, was acquired by the state executive on February 25, 1985 and listed by decree nº 25,880. In the region, be sure to enjoy the beautiful landscape and delight in the large production of jams, sweets and liqueurs.
