Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit

About the attraction

A Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit is a historic jewel located in Praça Getúlio Vargas, in the center of Florianópolis. Belonging to the Irmandade do Divino Espírito Santo (IDES), this chapel is a heritage listed by the Historical, Artistic and Natural Heritage of the Municipality of Florianópolis (Municipal Decree nº 270/86). Next to the chapel, there is the Consistory Room, a space intended for meetings, studies and meetings, complementing the beautiful architectural set of historical assets around it.

The Chapel of Divino Espírito Santo is linked to the Cathedral Parish and is currently served by Father Valter Maurício Goedert, who succeeded Father Paulo Bratti. Construction of the chapel began in October 1931, under the supervision of João Baptista Berretta, from “Construtora e Madeireira Berretta & Cia. Ltda”. The inauguration took place in 1932, during the management of Ombudsman Lauro Marques Linhares.

The interior of the Capela do Divino Espírito Santo is a spectacle in itself, highlighted by the beautiful stained glass windows, delicate chandeliers, a unique floor and air-conditioned environment. The main altar features images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady Queen and Saint Joseph, while the side altars house French images and relics of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and Saint Vincent de Paul. The chapel has 25 benches for the faithful, who participate in masses at Saturdays at 6pm and the first Monday of the month at 3pm, during the Meeting of Devotees of Santa Teresinha. Special events, such as the Mass of the Brothers and the participation of the Vozes do Divino Choir, are also held monthly.

The Chapel of Divino Espírito Santo is a popular wedding venue due to its beauty and welcoming atmosphere. The chapel's Eucharistic table contains a sculpture of a pelican, a Catholic symbol of sacrifice and donation, which refers to the Eucharistic tradition. This bird is mentioned in Psalm 102 and is celebrated by figures such as Saint Jerome and Saint Thomas Aquinas in their works.

Come and discover the Chapel of Divino Espírito Santo, a place where history, art and faith meet in perfect harmony in the heart of Florianópolis.
