Riozinho Cave

This impressive underground hall, a generous 47 meters long and 20.5 meters wide, is a true wonder of nature. When exploring the place with the help of flashlights, it is impossible not to notice the delicate droplets of water that accumulate on the ceiling. When the light falls on them, these small drops shine like authentic precious stones, creating a spectacle worthy of admiration. 

The real grandeur of the cave is only revealed when the appropriate lighting is thrown over it, revealing a breathtaking scenery. Although some stalagmites and stalactites remain, it is notable that many have disappeared over time, possibly due to human influence. The “fauna” that inhabits this enclosure is composed of insects adapted to darkness, forming a unique ecosystem. 

In addition to the grandeur of the underground hall, Gruta do Riozinho is blessed with the majesty of an imposing waterfall, which extends to an impressive 25 meters in height. Twelve meters from the entrance to the cave and another thirteen meters to the bottom of the valley, this waterfall gives an aura of enigmatic beauty to the whole environment. In the heart of the cave, an altar dedicated to Nossa Senhora Aparecida offers a space for reflection and devotion, especially attracting visitors during Good Friday. 

The gentle sound of the waterfall echoes through the cave's chambers, amplifying the mysterious aura and natural beauty of the enclosure. The rock walls themselves echo the past histories of the Xokleng and other cultures that once occupied this space. The legends of ancient residents narrate the presence of human bones, possibly traces of the Xoklengs' practice of cremation.
