Church of Our Lady of Conception

If you are planning a visit to Florianópolis, you cannot miss the iconic Church of Our Lady of Conception. This historical monument, built in 1780, is one of the most beautiful examples of Portuguese architecture in Santa Catarina.

The church, which is located in Morro da Lagoa, has undergone several renovations and modifications over the years, but is still one of the main tourist attractions in the Lagoa region. Its importance is such that, in 1974, it was listed by the then mayor Esperidião Amin, along with four other churches that represent Portuguese architecture on the island.

In addition to its historical and cultural importance, the church also has great religious significance for the local community. In 1999, it was elevated to the category of Sanctuary, which makes it an important place of pilgrimage and worship for the faithful in the region.

And when you visit, take a few minutes to go down and up the stone street that starts in the middle of the square, in front of the church, and ends at the intersection of João Antônio da Silveira and João Pacheco da Costa streets. The historic paving, made of paving stones in the 19th century, gives access to the parish of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição da Lagoa, via a steep path with stones of different shapes.

Near the church there are also other tour options such as the Lagoa center, where you will find several shops, restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as a crafts fair on Saturdays. Another option is to enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes of the region. A Conceição Lagoon is surrounded by hills, dunes and beaches with crystal clear water, such as Mole Beach, The Joaquina beach and the Galheta Beach.
