Church of San Miguel

About the attraction

Located in the charming region of São Miguel, in Biguaçu, the Church of San Miguel it has been a beacon of history since its inauguration on January 23, 1751. Over the years, it has witnessed significant transformations. In 1798, the old stucco church that had fallen into disrepair was demolished, making way for a new brick building. This new building, in Portuguese-Brazilian style with a distinctive straight pediment, carries with it the fusion of culture and architecture.

One of the church's treasures is the graceful bell, a generous gift from Emperor Dom Pedro II, given in 1845 during his memorable visit to Santa Catarina. The importance of the Church of São Miguel transcends its religious role, as on November 14, 1969, it was recognized as a listed monument by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute.

Together with the Aqueduct and the Casa dos Açores, this church forms the magnificent Luso-Açorean Ensemble of São Miguel, a tribute to the cultural heritage of the region.

Whether you are a history lover, an admirer of architecture or a curious traveler, the Church of São Miguel and its surroundings promise a journey rich in knowledge and beauty, where every brick tells a story and every detail reveals the mastery of Portuguese-Brazilian culture .
