A Ponta das Companhas, located between the beaches of Armação and Matadeiro, enchants with its natural and historical beauty. Accessible via a wooden walkway, this point offers a stunning view of the neighboring beaches. When looking to the left, facing the beaches, you can see the stunning Praia do Matadeiro, while on the right you can see the beautiful Praia da Armação.
In addition to the stunning landscapes, the rock formations around the “point” create natural pools, providing a refreshing swim in the sea. There is a small pier where fishermen's boats dock, bringing fresh fish and shrimp.
Ponta das Companhas has a history that dates back to the colonial period, specifically to the middle of the 18th century, a time when whaling began, an activity that persisted until 1950. In Brazil, whaling was only banned in 1985. The name “Ponta das Companhas” derives from “whaling companies”, a term used to designate the residences of individuals who dedicated themselves to this practice.
Today, the place is a point of contemplation for local residents and tourists, as well as serving as a starting point for trips to Campeche Island.
