A Matadeiro Beach It is located in the south of Santa Catarina Island, limited to the north by the Lagoa do Peri bleeding channel.
The name would be due to the place being used for slaughtering whales during the period when fishing was authorized in the country.
Today the beach is used for fishing boats and access to the shores for fishing or diving.
The beach is excellent for surfing and whale watching is common from July to November. An excellent way to observe whales and the local landscape is to walk to Ponta das Campanhas, formerly known as Ponta das Companhias de Pesca de Baleia. It is also from there that boats depart for visits to Campeche Island.
And there's more, it's in the south corner of the beach that one of the trails to the Lagoinha do Leste Beach, one of the most beautiful and preserved beaches on the Island.
Matadeiro Beach belongs to the District of South Swamp, is 650 meters long and its width varies from 5 to 28 meters.
