A Pântano do Sul Beach It is a fishermen's beach and is considered the main fishing spot on the island.
The name Pântano is due to the entire area west of the beach being swampy, structured by several small rivers that descend from the region's hills.
According to Pereira (2004), until the organization of the Lagoinha Whale Fishing Company, the Pântano do Sul community was small and it is said that only Indians lived in the locality (1768).
However, whale fishing brought development and expansion to the entire region.
Currently, the region stands out for fishing for Cação Mangona and mullet fishing, in addition to deep-sea fishing, with larger boats, which capture, in addition to the aforementioned fish, also grouper, pijareba, hake, grouper, sea bass, lobster, among others.
The beach is also a destination for many residents and tourists who take the trail to the Lagoinha do Leste or even those who come in search of the pleasure of seafood-based cuisine, depending on good and traditional restaurants located on the beach.
