A Shipwreck Trail is the gateway to the southernmost beach in Florianópolis, located 43 km from the city center. To get to the trailhead, follow the Caieira da Barra do Sul bus line to the end of the line or drive to the Trilha dos Naufragados parking lot (our location is right there!). From there, the approximately 3 km trail offers an immersion into the lush Atlantic Forest, passing waterfalls and ruins. In about 50 minutes of walking, you will reach the Praia de Naufragados, a natural and historical refuge that enchants visitors.
The trail is well marked and, although it starts with a steep climb, it soon becomes a flatter path surrounded by native vegetation. Along the way, enjoy the streams to cool off and admire the green tunnel formed by the trees. If you are looking for a panoramic view, continue to the Shipwreck Lighthouse, which, despite not allowing internal visits, offers an incredible view of the island and the mainland. In the surroundings, you can also find the Fort Marechal Moura of Shipwrecks with old cannons that reinforce the historical character of the place, marked by shipwrecks and battles.
Important tips: Bring water and snacks, as there are no support structures along the trail. Wear comfortable shoes and, if possible, go early in the morning to make the most of the daylight and avoid the strong sun.
At the end of the Shipwreck Trail, explore the Shipwreck Point, from where you can see the Araçatuba Island, where is the Fort of Our Lady of Conception, built in 1742.
This trail, with an easy level of difficulty and well signposted, is ideal for those who want to combine adventure, nature and a dive into the history of Florianópolis.
