A South Swamp Beach It is a fishermen's beach and is considered the main fishing spot on the island.
The name Pântano (Swamp) is due to the entire western strip of the beach being swampy, structured by several small rivers that descend from the hills of the region.
According to Pereira (2004), until the organization of the Lagoinha Whale Fishing Company, the community of Pântano do Sul was small and it is said that only Indians lived in the locality (1768).
However, whaling brought development and expansion to the entire region.
Currently, the region stands out for its sand tiger shark fishing and mullet seine fishing, as well as deep-sea fishing with larger boats that catch, in addition to the aforementioned fish, also grouper, snapper, whiting, wreckfish, sea bass, lobster, among others.
The beach is also a destination for many residents and tourists who hike the trail to the Lagoinha do Leste Or even those who come in search of the pleasure of seafood-based cuisine, drawn by the good and traditional restaurants located on the beach.
