Located in the south of Santa Catarina Island, Shipwrecked Beach It's a true hidden treasure. Accessible only by trail or boat, the beach is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and contact with nature.

The trail leading to Naufragados Beach is of moderate difficulty and takes about an hour. Along the way, you can observe the Atlantic Forest and spot animals such as birds and marmosets. At the end of the trail, a breathtaking landscape awaits: Naufragados Beach, with its crystal-clear waters and strip of fine white sand.

Shipwrecked Beach received this name due to a sad episode in history. When Azorean immigrants settled in the region, their ships were wrecked near the beach. Since then, the region has been known as Shipwrecked Beach.

The beach is quite well-preserved and lacks much tourist infrastructure, which makes it even more special. In the area, you can find some simple restaurants that offer seafood and cold drinks to cool off from the heat.

In addition to relaxing on the beach, visitors can also explore, at the entrance to Barra, the Araçatuba Island, which hosts the Fortaleza Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Barra, Built in 1765 to protect the island from potential invaders, the fortress is an important historical landmark in the region and can be visited by tourists; however, there is no frequent transportation to take tourists there.

Next to Ponta dos Naufragados, there is also an important Lighthouse Built in 1861, it serves as a navigational landmark, in addition to housing a battery of cannons and an administrative complex of the Brazilian Army. It is possible to visit the site and learn more about the history of the region.

Insect repellent is essential, as is caution regarding venomous animals, especially coral snakes and pit vipers during the summer season. And don't forget water to stay hydrated and some cereal bars or fruit to stave off hunger.

 

Parking information: There are parking lots, on private property, at the Caieira bus terminal, the same place where the trail to Naufragados Beach begins.
