Church of Our Lady of the Rosary

Located next to the Lauro Muller State School, in the center of the capital, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Benedict, The Church of the Staircase, affectionately known as "The Church of the Staircase," is a historical landmark in Florianópolis. Built in 1750 by the Beneficent Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Benedict of the Black Men, this temple is a testament to the devotion and resilience of the Afro-descendant community of that time.

Celebrating its 273rd anniversary in 2023, the church boasts imposing architecture and elegant lines. Inside its simple interior, visitors find treasures such as sacred objects and images, including the venerated Our Lady of the Rosary. Beyond its historical and religious value, the church is also famous for the stunning panorama painted by Victor Meirelles in the 19th century, depicting the city with the South Bay in the background.

The Rosary Staircase, which leads to the temple, is a lively meeting point, with several bars and restaurants along its route. It is a place where history blends with contemporary life, offering visitors a unique experience in Florianópolis.
