


A Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit It is a historical gem located in Getúlio Vargas Square, in the center of Florianópolis. Belonging to the Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Spirit (IDES), this chapel is a listed historical, artistic and natural heritage site of the Municipality of Florianópolis (Municipal Decree No. 270/86). Next to the chapel is the Consistory Room, a space intended for meetings, studies and gatherings, complementing the beautiful architectural ensemble of historical assets around it.
The Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit is linked to the Cathedral Parish and is currently served by Father Valter Maurício Goedert, who succeeded Father Paulo Bratti. Construction of the chapel began in October 1931, under the supervision of João Baptista Berretta, of “Construtora e Madeireira Berretta & Cia. Ltda”. The inauguration took place in 1932, during the administration of the Provider Lauro Marques Linhares.
The interior of the Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit is a spectacle in itself, standing out for its beautiful stained-glass windows, delicate chandeliers, unique flooring, and air-conditioned environment. The main altar features images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady Queen, and Saint Joseph, while the side altars house French images and relics of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and Saint Vincent de Paul. The chapel has 25 pews for the faithful, who attend Mass at [time not specified]. Saturdays at 6 PM and on the first Monday of the month at 3 PM., during the Meeting of the Devotees of Saint Therese. Special events, such as the Mass of the Brothers and the participation of the Voices of the Divine Choir, are also held monthly.
The Chapel of the Divine Holy Spirit is a popular wedding venue due to its beauty and welcoming atmosphere. The chapel's Eucharistic table features a sculpture of a pelican, a Catholic symbol of sacrifice and giving, which refers to the Eucharistic tradition. This bird is mentioned in Psalm 102 and is celebrated by figures such as Saint Jerome and Saint Thomas Aquinas in their works.
