O Museum of Florianopolis it was conceived to act as a great access portal to the municipality, where it is possible to get to know the city, in an interactive way, and understand it in its contemporaneity.

It was born with the aim of promoting continuous reflection on the territory, the dynamics of construction, occupation and transformation of urban space, in its different dimensions: historical, geographic, cultural and symbolic, where temporalities converge and interpenetrate, through the exhibition of physical collections, technology, interactivity and its multidisciplinary, comprehensive and inclusive educational program.

Based on an innovative concept that goes beyond traditional models, the Museum of Florianópolis brings characteristics of historical museums, preserving the memory of the Capital of Santa Catarina, at the same time that it looks to the present time to understand the complexity of contemporary issues in the city, from in order to open a dialogue for the future. Using different technologies and exhibiting important collections, the space must position itself in the municipality's museological scenario as an interlocutor to address emerging issues, bring different voices from the population, think about history and discuss tomorrow, with public interest and democratization actions as a priority. access and knowledge about the city itself, the history of its peoples and different cultural expressions.

The Museum of Florianópolis presents a long-term exhibition and a temporary exhibition that streamlines the program. The long-term exhibition is made up of six exhibition modules that propose to represent Florianópolis in its various dimensions.

Its physical space is divided into two buildings, the historic townhouse of the former Town Hall and Jail, measuring 865m², whose work began in 1771 and was handed over to the public in 1780, and the administrative building, erected during the restoration work on the historic building. , in the year 2015.

In the annex building are located the Museum Cafe and the toilets.
