If you are planning a visit to Florianópolis, be sure to check out the Church of Our Lady of Needs, in Santo Antônio de Lisboa. With over 270 years of history, this church is one of the oldest in the Archdiocese and a true gem of colonial architecture.
Founded in 1750, the church was annexed to different parishes over the years, until in 1984 it was incorporated into the São Francisco Xavier Parish. Recently, in 2015, the Nossa Senhora das Necessidades Parish was reactivated and today it is formed by the communities of Santo Antônio de Lisboa, Cacupé, Barra do Sambaqui, Sambaqui and Recanto dos Açores.
Besides its historical and religious importance, the Church of Our Lady of Necessities is a beautiful example of colonial architecture. Its imposing white facade is marked by simple and elegant lines, while its interior is decorated with sacred images, with emphasis on the wood carving (sculptural technique in wood) characteristic of the transition period between Baroque and Rococo.
When you visit the church, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the region, as well as enjoy moments of peace and reflection in a unique and welcoming environment. Be sure to check the times for masses and other religious celebrations, which take place regularly at the church.
