O Museum of the Sambaqui Man, The museum, a true gateway to the past, is located inside the Colégio Catarinense. The museum transports us on a fascinating journey through time, leading us to explore life more than four thousand years ago. It is a place that awakens our admiration for the discoveries of the Jesuit priest and researcher João Alfredo Rohr, SJ. The museum is the guardian of a valuable historical, educational, and academic collection, where each item on display becomes a tool for education, learning, and knowledge.

When visiting the Sambaqui Man Museum, we are taken on a journey to learn more about the lives of the ancient inhabitants of the sambaquis, how they lived, interacted, and survived in those remote times. It all began with a simple "stone," metaphorically speaking, represented by João Alfredo Rohr, SJ, who faced numerous adversities to carry out his archaeological research.

Since its organization in 1964 by Father João Alfredo Rohr, the Sambaqui Man Museum has housed one of the largest archaeological collections in Brazil, with approximately five thousand objects. Specializing in prehistoric archaeology, the museum contains pieces over eight thousand years old, including skeletons, funerary urns, indigenous artifacts, and much more.

In addition, the Museum has a zoology wing, displaying animals of various species preserved through taxidermy, and houses collections of numismatics, liturgical vestments, and much more.
