Welcome to Otter Project – a conservation tourism center that is a true treasure trove of Brazilian biodiversity! Here you can experience the incredible wildlife of the Lontra longicaudis, an endangered species protected by CITES and USESA.
As part of the small mustelid family, the otter is one of only 11 otter species in the world, making it truly unique. This species is a carnivorous predator par excellence and plays a fundamental ecological role as a top predator in the aquatic food chain. Its shy behavior and nocturnal activity make it difficult to spot in the wild, which makes it even more special when seen up close.
The importance of the otter is not limited to its ecological role. It also has great economic and social importance, with many local communities benefiting from conservation tourism. In fact, the IUCN has a specialized group, the Otter Specialist Group, dedicated to this species.
The Otter Project, located in Florianópolis, is a leader in conservation tourism in Brazil and is dedicated to protecting wildlife and the environment. Come explore the diversity of Floripa's flora and fauna and witness the beauty and importance of the otter! Lack of knowledge and ignorance are the greatest threats to the species, but by visiting the Otter Project, you will be making a difference in the conservation of these fascinating animals. Come visit us and experience the thrill of seeing the otter in its natural habitat!
