O Álvaro de Carvalho Theatre, The TAC, affectionately known as TAC, is more than just a cultural space in Florianópolis; it's a true historical and cultural landmark of Santa Catarina. With a history dating back to the mid-19th century, the TAC has been the stage for events and transformations throughout the years.
From its official inauguration in 1875, under the name Santa Isabel, in honor of Princess Isabel, to its current status as the Álvaro de Carvalho Theater, in honor of the first playwright from Santa Catarina, the space has gone through several phases. It has served as a barracks for the National Guard, housed political prisoners, and even hosted pioneering film screenings in the city.
In more recent years, starting in the 1970s, the TAC has assumed its role as one of the main cultural centers in the region, dedicated exclusively to the promotion of artistic and cultural performances. Under the management of the Santa Catarina Cultural Foundation (FCC), the theater celebrates the rich cultural production of Santa Catarina, offering a diverse program that includes theater, music, dance, and much more.
In addition to being a performance space, the TAC keeps the historical memory of the region alive, preserving its traditions and contributing to the cultural enrichment of Florianópolis and the entire state of Santa Catarina.
