The Project Long live Monte Serrat! It is a true gem in Florianópolis, revealing the fascinating stories and lush landscapes of Monte Serrat. Created in 2021, the project was born with the aim of promoting local culture and nature, generating income and recognition for the residents of the region through Community-Based Tourism.

They offer three tourist itineraries that go beyond natural beauty, providing enriching and transformative experiences. With Viva Monte Serrat, you will be guided by hosts from the community itself, who will share stories of overcoming challenges, resilience, and faith, all told with the stunning landscape of Florianópolis as a backdrop.

In a city as full of attractions as Florianópolis, what makes Monte Serrat so special? The answer lies in the rich history of the Monte Serrat community, marked by resistance, joy, unity, and a deeply rooted culture.

From the 19th century, when slaves seeking freedom found refuge in the region, to the transformations of the 20th century, when the central population was displaced to the outskirts, Monte Serrat has become a symbol of perseverance and community development. The creation of the Lúcia Mayvorne School, the Embaixada Copa Lord Samba School, and the founding of the Monte Serrat Community Council are just a few examples of the remarkable achievements of this community. Iconic figures such as Dona Uda Gonzaga, the first Black woman from the hill to become a teacher, and Father Vilson, a defender of social rights, citizenship, and faith, are also part of this rich history.

Viva Monte Serrat offers three distinct itineraries:

  • Washerwomen's Path: Discover the history of Morro da Caixa, where washerwomen traveled long distances to water sources to support their families. This itinerary honors the strength and resilience of the women in the community.
  • Path of Views: Explore the unforgettable stories of the Monte Serrat community while gazing at the heart of Florianópolis under the sunset light. Discover the marks left by the construction of the staircases and the paths trodden by generations.
  • The Path of Blackness: For anyone wishing to understand more about the occupation of Monte Serrat, this itinerary is essential. Walk through the community and learn about its history of struggle, the collective construction efforts, and the formation of the vibrant Copa Lord Samba School.

The Viva Monte Serrat Project invites you to go beyond the obvious and enjoy a unique experience in Florianópolis, where each step reveals a new chapter of overcoming challenges and unity. Come be enchanted and transform your perspective on Floripa!
