In the north of Santa Catarina Island, the King's Path Trail It's an unmissable adventure that runs along the top of the massif between Bom Jesus Waterfall, Ponta das Canas, English It is Brave Beach. The trail begins on Leonel Pereira Street, shortly before the descent to SC-403, between two fences.
The initial hike follows along rural property fences, crossing an area of regenerating forest with some muddy sections. These parts can be confusing, as there are many alternative trails used by farmers and livestock, so it's a good idea to keep your GPS handy to avoid getting lost.
The trail is relatively easy and peaceful, with the climb to the summit being the most challenging section, but still of moderate difficulty. At the top, the dense vegetation prevents a complete 360º view, but some rocks offer an incredible panoramic view of Cachoeira and Ponta das Canas beaches.
In the final stretch, the trail leads to the Praia Brava paragliding field, passing through open paths, and ends on the highway that goes to Praia Brava, near the viewpoint. It's about seven kilometers of trail, from the Praia Brava viewpoint to the Bom Jesus Waterfall viewpoint, offering a breathtaking view of the north of the island.
The King's Path Trail also carries a rich history. Some say it was created when the village administrators opened a path to connect Canasvieiras Beach to the old São Francisco de Paula Church, in preparation for Dom Pedro II's visit to Florianópolis, then called Desterro. Other historical records also show that, during the Spanish invasion of 1777, the Spanish used the trail to obtain a strategic view of the maritime accesses to the region, showing that the trail may be even older.
