Contract Port

Porto do Contrato is a historical site of great importance to Ribeirão da Ilha, in Florianópolis. It was named by Sebastian Cabot in 1526 and only reactivated after the arrival of Azorean and African immigrants in 1760. For decades, the dock was used for commercial purposes, until the arrival of roads and "progress" caused the sea to lose its function as a waterway.

Today, the Contract Port Porto do Contrato is a gastronomic establishment that seeks to keep alive the memory and importance of the place. Inspired by seafood and the history of the Azoreans and Africans, the cuisine of Porto do Contrato is a way to reclaim the values and traditions of the region. Although fishing and agriculture are no longer the economic pillars of the locality, gastronomy has become a way to honor and celebrate the rich cultural heritage left by those who transformed the economy of Ribeirão da Ilha.
